Building a More Robust Specialty Rice Market
Delta Harvest is partnering with regional and national brands to source specialty rice varieties, including jasmine and basmati, from the Delta. These varieties, traditionally produced on the West Coast or internationally, are grown by women- and minority-owned farming operations and command a premium per pound for a unique, economically viable, and socially responsible product.
Jasmine Rice
American Jasmine is the first domestically adapted rice variety that has the same aromatic, floral flavor, and soft-cooked texture as the famous Thai jasmine rice.
Forbidden Rice
Our black/purple pigmented rice is an aromatic long-grain valued for its intense color, buttery aroma and flavor, and high levels of antioxidants. Traditionally produced in Asia, "black rice" was once prized and reserved only for royalty.
Sushi Rice
Our medium-grain is the first Delta-grown sushi rice with the same quality of the popular California "Calrose." Ideal for foods like sushi, this variety's grains are soft, stick together, and hold flavor.
Red Rice
This red-pigmented rice is derived from an ancient Malaysian grain. High in antioxidants and flavonoids, our's is the first red rice commercialized in the U.S..
Basmati Rice
Our Delta-grown basmati-style rice has similar slender grains, fluffy cooked texture, and superior aroma as the traditional Indian basmati.
High-Amylose Rice
Delta Harvest markets long-grain rice well-suited to parboiling, canning, and instantizing due to its special biochemical properties that prevent the rice kernels from splitting during processing.
Sweet Rice
Delta Harvest markets a unique long-grain sweet rice - the first developed for production in the southern United States. It is commonly used in flour or as a steamed rice and in desserts.
Arborio & More
Our portfolio includes 20+ rice varieties, including arborio, a sweet forbidden rice, and centuries-old heirloom grains, among others.
